Alternative Solutions to Eliminate Emissions

May 2, 2018

Why is air pollution an issue? According to Brady Dennis from The Washington Post, nine million people around the world are killed each year due to pollution. These high mortality rates have encouraged governments worldwide to implement air pollution legislation in order to encourage businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and help save people’s lives.

Global issue: “At present, the United States emits about 16% of the world’s GHGs (greenhouse gas), behind only China, which accounts for approximately one-quarter of total global emissions,” stated the National Academies of Science. Data reported by the World Bank shows that the renewable energy has been a rising global trend, and several countries have been taking action to address this matter such as carbon tax implementations. These taxations are necessary strategies for eliminating CO2 emissions and reducing the negative health impacts of air pollution.

Health issue: Extensive research has been conducted on diesel exhaust emissions, and they have been proven to have a wide range of negative health impacts. The United States Department of Labor has stated that some of the short-term consequences are respiratory diseases, allergies, headaches, dizziness, and irritations that affect working conditions. Extensive exposure to diesel pollution increases a person's risk of immune systems, cardiovascular issues, lung diseases, and even premature death.

Environmental Health Analytics LLC's Dr. Susan Anenberg published journals revealing that “diesel vehicles around the world produce 4.5 million tons more NOx than they should do under international emission standards.” The scientists involved in her studies predict that in 23 years, diesel vehicles around the world will cause 183,600 premature deaths each year. These numbers are already alarmingly high, and they don't include the millions of death worldwide caused by outdoor air pollution as a whole.

Available solutions: Due to the rising levels of diesel exhaust emissions, air quality has been declining substantially. One of the solutions to this increase in air pollution is decreasing vehicles' idle time. Stealth Power's idle reduction technology is applicable to almost any fleet driven industry - from service trucks to delivery trucks and all vehicles in between. Stealth Power’s goal is to decrease diesel emissions and therefore improve air quality and working conditions. Not only does reducing idling improves air quality, it also saves a significant amount of money by lowering fuel and maintenance costs while extending the vehicle’s warranty and operational life. Idle reduction systems also have an immediate health benefit for workers by improving the air quality at their job site. Employees in the oil & gas, construction, service, and emergency response industries would especially benefit from such technology.

“Our mission as Stealth Power is to leverage cutting-edge idle reduction technology to solve legacy problems facing fleet managers. From reducing greenhouse gas to using predictive analytics while saving money on fuel and maintenance, our focus on innovative solutions improves the environment and our customers’ bottom line,” - Shannon Sentell, Ph.D. Chief Operations Officer of Stealth Power.

The EPA stated that “from 1970-2015 the aggregate national emissions of the six common pollutants alone dropped an average of 70 percent” due to government’s effort alone. Government and private organizations need to continue their efforts to improve air quality by optimizing the different options available through funds provided by the EPA, encouraging public awareness, and utilizing green/renewable technologies such as the idle reduction technology that Stealth Power provides.
